Woman figuring out her future
Stop struggling to let go of the past

Sometimes, as Christians, we are the worst when it comes to beating ourselves up over a situation we did not handle well. We ask for forgiveness if needed and attempt restitution if warranted. We do our best to make amends. Even so, we keep worrying and worrying, not letting go. The great challenge for us is that if we do not quit looking back, we cannot look forward to what the LORD has waiting for us.

Not even God Himself will override your free will in this area. All God can do is give you the knowledge from His Word that this is what He wants from you, all for your good. Then, God will take you back to your past for a reasonable amount of time so you can get your loose ends cleaned up and tied up. Many scriptures in the word of God instruct us to sustain forward thinking. The following three scripture summarizes them all.

In Isaiah 43:18-19, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." God has something new for you and me and wants us to see what He is doing.

In Job 17:9, "The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger." Moving forward with Him makes us stronger.

In Philippians 3:13-14, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." When we forget about those things behind us, we can reach forward to the prize God has waiting. It would be such a shame to miss that.

It is time to quit floundering in what is over and done and to look ahead to what we can do for Him in the future. In addition, this new attitude will also help that spiritual crick in our neck if we keep looking forward. God the Father has a specific plan and destiny for each person who will come to Him and fully surrender their life into His hands. However, you will never be able to press forward and fly into this upward and high calling unless you learn to let go of your past. Both of these verses perfectly and beautifully capture this basic 101 principle. This particular principle is, without any question, a central, essential, fundamental principle that each Christian has to work into their mindset and way of thinking in this life. When we look forward, we accomplish everything that God has set out for us to do in His perfect plan for our lives.
