Many people live with a deep sense of hesitation, fear, or self-doubt, which prevents them from fully embracing God’s plan for their lives. Whether due to past failures, fear of the unknown, or feelings of inadequacy, we often hold back from stepping into the divine path that God has placed on our lives. However, the Bible encourages believers to move forward with faith, courage, and obedience. We must stop holding back.
Breaking Free from Fear, Doubt, or Pride
Fear is one of the primary reasons people hold back. Fear of failure, rejection, or the challenges of stepping out in faith can paralyze even the most benevolent believers. However, Scripture teaches us that God has not given us a spirit of fear [2 Timothy 1:7]. When we acknowledge that fear is not from God, we can begin to reject it and embrace His strength. God calls us to trust Him and take steps forward, even when the path seems uncertain.
Another reason people hold back is the belief that they are not equipped or strong enough to fulfill God’s calling. None of us is sufficient in our strength, but God’s power works through our weaknesses. Christ strengthens us to cope with various constraints, challenges, and obstacles [Philippians 4:13]. When we rely on God’s strength rather than our own, He provides the resources, wisdom, and endurance necessary to accomplish His will. This empowering shift in mindset lets us step out boldly, knowing we are not alone in our endeavors.
Letting Go of the Past
Many people hesitate to move forward because of past mistakes, disappointments, or sins. They feel unworthy of God’s calling or believe their past disqualifies them. Yet, the Bible teaches that God redeems and restores [Isaiah 43:18-19]. God’s grace is sufficient to cleanse us from our past and give us a fresh start. Holding onto past failures only keeps us from walking in the new things God has prepared for us.
The Bible shows examples of people who refused to hold back and stepped out in faith despite obstacles.
Moses doubted his ability to lead, but God empowered him (Exodus 3:11-12).
David faced Goliath with faith rather than fear (1 Samuel 17:45-47).
Peter walked on water when he focused on Jesus (Matthew 14:29-31).
These examples remind us that taking bold steps of faith, even when circumstances seem impossible, can lead to divine breakthroughs, such as personal growth, spiritual maturity, and fulfilling God's plan.
Obedience is not just a suggestion; it is the key to stepping into God’s calling. We delay God’s plans for our lives when we hesitate or resist. Delayed obedience is often disobedience [Joshua 1:9]. God does not ask us to have everything figured out before we obey. He calls us to trust Him and move forward in faith. Obedience is the path to fulfilling God's purpose for your life.
If you have been holding back due to fear, doubt, past mistakes, or uncertainty, remember that God has placed a purpose on your life and equips those He calls. Step out in faith, knowing that God is with you every step of the way [Hebrews 10:39]. Let today be the day you stop holding back and embrace all God has for you! Remember, fear is not from God, and His strength is perfect in our weakness. Trust Him; He will guide you on the path He has prepared for you.
